How to write an interesting blog

by Alfredo

Blogging takes more than knowing how to write. To be a good blogger, you have to know how to be interesting. It takes more than knowledge of writing to capture the attention of readers. If you want your blog to be a success, then you will have to learn how to make it is as interesting as you can. However, it can pose much of a challenge to learn how to be interesting. This is why many bloggers often wonder what it takes to be interesting. Perhaps the biggest challenge to many bloggers is finding out exactly what is interesting, as everything that sparks interest is quite abstract. No one can actually single out a certain topic and say that it makes an interesting topic. Keep in mind that interest is subjective, as it is never the same for everyone. There are, however, several things that you can do to ensure that your blog sparks interest. Below are 21 techniques that have been proven to work:

  1. Try to be wrong. You don’t have to be right all the time to be interesting. There are so many people out there who spend most of their time just trying to be right. While there is nothing wrong with sticking to the norms, if that’s all you ever do, then you are bound to bore your readers. It takes a lot of effort to be right but it takes more to be wrong. Readers are always looking for people who have the courage to challenge the status quo.
  2. Try to be right as well. You cannot spend the entire time as a blogger being wrong. You have to be right from time to time but make sure that whenever you are right, you have more to offer your readers than others who are on the same page as you. Try to elaborate on your points more clearly than others and make sure that yours are stronger than other points raised by everyone else, as this will surely spark the interest of your readers.
  3. Always communicate to your readers what others cannot. If you want to set yourself apart from all the other writers out there, you got to have a certain way with words. Not all writers can always communicate what they want, which is why they often use songs, movies and books to portray what they want to say. If you can fill in what is missing, your readers are sure to hang on to your every word.
  4. Never just write about advice. Readers respond better to those who write about their own personal experiences. You cannot just write about what you think all the time, instead try to write about what you do as well. Readers like writers who are not afraid to share to the world what they do. It is also important to practice what you preach. You cannot just go around telling people what to do, if you can’t even apply your own advice to your life, you should think twice about giving them.
  5. Don’t be afraid to challenge yourself from time to time. If you want your readers to keep their interest in your blog, then you will have to learn to surprise them. Do something that you normally won’t do or take a stand that you normally won’t take. When you get people to realize that they cannot predict your actions, they will surely come back for more. Most people are interested in the unpredictable and whenever they witness something unexpected, you can always expect them to stop and take notice.
  6. Be funny. if you want your readers to stay interested, the best way to do so is to use humor. Some bloggers tend to be so serious all the time and this can be very boring for your readers. Imagine yourself as a public speaker, you have to use humor to keep your audience’s attention to you throughout the whole speech. An audience will never be captivated by a boring speech, what usually catches their attention are speakers who know how to tell a good joke when it is appropriate.
  7. Offer your readers what they are looking for. Offer them a cure for their headache. Some of the best blog posts out there receive attention not because of how elaborate and well-written their posts are but because they offer readers a cure for their ailments. Be your reader’s drug of choice.
  8. Show advertisements of half-naked women. You don’t have to place this all over your site, especially if that’s not what your blog is all about. Just include an advertisement or two that feature women with skimpy clothing. This will surely attract, to some degree, the attention of both men and women.
  9. Let them feel that you know them and that you understand them. So many people these days are unsure about who they really are. You can use this insecurity to your advantage by telling them who they are. Write about topics that will help your readers define who they are.
  10. Try to predict the future. You don’t have to make unreasonable claims that are far from actually happening, you just have to predict the future trends of a particular topic that you know a lot about. If you end up being right, you will generate so many loyal readers.
  11. Don’t be afraid to act like a dork. Even if your readers subscribe to your blog for information, they will always be looking for something that would make them laugh. If you want to keep your readers interested, then mix some humor into your blog posts. Learn how to make something boring and make it more interesting.
  12. Don’t be afraid to show them who you are. If you really want to generate valuable readers, you have to be courageous, as readers appreciate a writer who has the courage to express himself openly. Learn how to accept defeat with grace and dont be afraid to fight for what you believe in.
  13. Be honest. Honesty attracts a large number of people. Try to be honest every once in awhile. Readers appreciate honesty and the more honest you are, the more people will people talk about you.
  14. Be offensive. While this does not sound like very good advice, writers who are not afraid to be offensive are often the ones that get the most attention. You can even talk about sensitive topics like religion, politics and family. Dont be afraid to offend some people, especially if you know that this is how you can get across to others.
  15. Don’t hesitate to tell your audience a good story. Readers like writers who support facts with stories, as this adds an interesting take on the topic at hand. If you know how to tell a good story, you can be assured that people will remember you long after you have gone.
  16. Try to get the news out there first. You see bloggers do this all the time. They get the scoop from search engines like Google and the next thing you know, everyone is talking about it. Write about it first before others get to it.
  17. Have courage to disprove what has long been proven. Even if people have lived years recognizing something as a fact, if someone with valid reason contests it, they will definitely welcome it with open arms. While this can be difficult, if you can somehow find something to disprove with appropriate evidence, you will definitely be someone to remember.
  18. Post images to back up your thoughts. If you include pictures on your posts, you are guaranteed to generate more traffic than those who heavily rely on written texts. Some readers respond better to posts with pictures, as it makes the story a lot more interesting.
  19. Use metaphors. Metaphors will instantly add a creative flair to your posts. However, it is important to gain mastery of using them before daring to. Create metaphors that are capable of not only catching your reader’s attention but are also capable of keeping it.
  20. Put more effort into your blog posts. A lot of bloggers these days write just for the sake of posting. This kind of habit will not bring you very far. If you want to get your reader’s loyalty, you have to create a work of art that is compelling enough and is worthy of their attention. Don’t post entries just for the sake of having something to say, as readers don’t like reading about gibberish. They want things that matter and they want topics that truly sparks their interests.
  21. Prioritize your readers. Even if you write the posts and you are responsible for creating a blog that changes peoples lives, the bottom-line is, you are nothing without your readers. You have to prioritize your readers, as they are the reason you have a blog in the first place. Otherwise, your blog should just be kept for yourself and not open to the public.
